Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has confided in acquaintances that he believes accepting the position at Old Trafford was a misstep, according to sources reported by Football Insider.
The 40-year-old Portuguese manager feels he should have postponed his decision until at least this summer and regrets yielding to the ‘now-or-never’ pressure from the United hierarchy.
Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag in mid-November but has failed to generate the expected positive impact, with Manchester United currently positioned 14th in the league and having been ousted from both domestic cup tournaments.
Sources indicate that the former Sporting CP manager has been “personally taken aback by the poor performance of the players,” having previously believed they were of a higher caliber as he prepared to assume the managerial role at Old Trafford.

He entered into a contract that extends until June 2027 upon his arrival at the Red Devils.
The Portuguese manager had a confrontation with Marcus Rashford before the latter’s loan transfer to Aston Villa, openly criticizing his training performance and also highlighting winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Amorim was permitted only one signing during the January transfer window at Manchester United, amidst ongoing financial challenges faced by the club, with left-back Patrick Dorgu making a permanent move from Lecce.

Amorim has ‘destroyed morale’ at Man United
Football Insider has reported, based on information from former United chief scout Mick Brown (27 February), that Amorim is significantly undermining morale within the Manchester United dressing room due to his remarks in the media.
Last month, he stated that his team might be “perhaps the worst” in the 147-year history of Manchester United.
Brown emphasized that Amorim has had ample opportunity to address the problems within the squad he took over.
