‘A striker who makes the difference’ – Stefan Effenberg tells Bayern Munich which player should replace Harry Kane once England ace leaves

Who could eventually take over from Harry Kane at Bayern Munich? Stefan Effenberg brings up a Bundesliga striker.

  • Effenberg has some transfer advice for Bayern
  • Tells them to sign a rival striker to succeed Kane
  • Englishman reported to leave Bayern in 2026
    • WHAT STEFAN EFFENBERG SAID?

According to the TV expert, Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick would be “the one for Bayern Munich after Harry Kane”, he said on the ‘Doppelpass’ programme on Sport1, adding: “This is a striker who absolutely makes the difference, not only physically but also technically brilliant. This is an incredible striker.”

      THE BIGGER PICTURE

Schick remains under contract with the reigning champions until 2027, the same year Harry Kane’s contract in Munich expires. However, Kane could potentially leave the club even earlier.

As reported by Sport Bild in early February, the striker included an exit clause when he transferred from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern. This clause allows him to leave the German record champions in the summer of 2026 for a transfer fee of €65 million.

Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig) and Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon) have recently been mentioned as potential replacements, with both reportedly already being discussed internally.

      DID YOU KNOW?

Schick would be the much cheaper option, though.

Although he has been an irregular starter for coach Xabi Alonso, with Victor Boniface repeatedly getting the nod, the 29-year-old has scored 15 goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances, with a further six coming in cup competitions.

Meanwhile, Kane has 29 goals in all competitions this season and has provided ten assists. However, he has also spent around 1,000 more minutes on the pitch than Schick and takes the penalties for Bayern.

    WHAT’S NEXT?

Schick and Kane will face each other again on the pitch soon, when the two respective teams meet in the Round of 16 of the Champions League in two weeks. The first leg is on March 5, with the return leg in Leverkusen six days later.
