Manchester United played to a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday. The first half was uneventful until a dramatic conclusion, when Bruno Fernandes executed an excellent free-kick to give United a 1-0 lead.
Here are how the players rated at Old Trafford:
Andre Onana
His kicking was often awry and he bowed to peer pressure from the crowd, unhappy with his recent slow restarts. Tipped a Martin Odegaard shot over. Got away with one in added time. 6
Victor Lindelof
Looked typically shaky on his first Premier League start since March 30 last year. His positioning in the middle of the back three was questionable and contributed to United dropping so deep so often. 5
Matthijs de Ligt
Involved in an early mix-up with Casemiro that came to nought. Made some full-blooded challenges in a largely solid performance. 6
Leny Yoro
Sustained an injury early in the match and then aggravated it towards the end of the first half, necessitating his substitution at halftime for Ayden Heaven. 6
Noussair Mazraoui
Involved in United’s few first-half offensive efforts, he worked effectively with Alejandro Garnacho at times and came close to scoring to make it 2-0. 8
Casemiro
Engaged in two tackles against teammates across both halves and was frequently bypassed, yet he demonstrated the stamina to endure against a formidable Arsenal midfield. 6
Bruno Fernandes
Occasionally mismanaged possession but ultimately delivered an excellent pass that led to United’s opening goal. His performance energized the crowd, and he nearly scored against David Raya. 8
Diogo Dalot
Received criticism from the crowd on two occasions in the first half for playing it safe with backward passes, but later provided an excellent cross for Mazraoui’s opportunity. Contributed little beyond that. 5
Christian Eriksen
Seemed to be the only player capable of maintaining possession, yet he struggled to do so in the first half. He worked hard but was ineffective with the ball. 5
Alejandro Garnacho
Accelerated the pace of play upon receiving the ball and has adjusted well to his role on the right side of the two attacking midfielders. Utilized the ball wisely. 7
Joshua Zirkzee
Focused too much on attempting to draw fouls while United faced difficulties in retaining possession. Had a promising opportunity to score but was too nonchalant with his flick. 5
Substitutes
Ayden Heaven
Came on at halftime for his league debut against his former team and performed adequately under the circumstances. 7
Toby Collyer
Brought on with 15 minutes remaining. 6
Rasmus Hojlund
Demonstrated the reason for his 20-game goal drought by not executing his shots with sufficient speed. His second opportunity was denied by Gabriel.
Manager
Chose a familiar lineup once more and ultimately benched Rasmus Hojlund. United significantly enhanced their performance in the second half and created the most promising opportunities. A substitution could have been made earlier.
